Katarzyna Estate is dedicated to creating extraordinary wine experiences that surprise and delight. Katarzyna Estate owns 550 ha of vineyards situated in one of the best vine-growing regions of Bulgaria.

We use classical method of winemaking to create the unique flavor in our wine which set a standard with uncontestable superior properties. Our wines carry with them the essence of “The Old World” and present a pure balance between the fruit, acidity, oak and the tannins.

About Katarzyna Estate

Katarzyna Estate is located in the region where there is abundance of sun shine, and during vegetation period the temperature sum reaches 4000 C. It is situated in one of the most fertile wine growing regions of Bulgaria and Europe and climate there is mild continental with well-presented Mediterranean influence. In the different parts of the estate the soils are of the types Chromic luvisol, Eutric cambisol and Rendzina.

The estate is situated just a few hours away from the cosmopolitan Istanbul and the sunny Greek beaches, Katarzyna Estate successfully combines the joy of walking around vineyards, remarkable winetasting, as well as the visit of the numerous cultural monuments, which this area is well known for.

About Vineyard

Katarzyna Estate owns 550 ha of vineyards situated in one of the best vine-growing regions of Bulgaria. What favors the growth of the vineyards in the region is the peculiar air corridor that is formed in the space between Sakar Mountain and The East Rhodopes- Orpheus’s mountains.

The planting density is 4130 vines per ha with 2,20m space between the rows and 1,10m between the vines. We train our vines at double Cordon. Applying modern viticultural practices and dynamic canopy management we aim at balanced yields, trying to make the best of Katarzyna Estate vineyards.

The different varieties and clones of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Tempranillo, Carmenere, Mavrud, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Viognier, Muscat and Traminer are selected to perfectly match the climatic features and the structure and type of soils. All this aimed to reveal to a maximum extent the terroir of the region.

The cellar is located in the southernmost part of Bulgaria, 2 km away from the village of Mezzek and about 7km away from Svilengrad at the foot of the East Rhodope Mountains. The land in the region is sandy, rocky and poor which is why the main crops in the area are sesame, tobacco, cotton, almonds, peaches, apricots and grapes.

Our Wine making Process

We have three technologists and an agronomical team who have ample professional experience and specializations abroad. The wine that we make is purely done through classical techniques and lot of hands on labor force which brings unique quality to our wines

During the harvesting season we do lab analysis where sugar content is monitored as well as the titric acids levels and the phenol maturity of the grapes. Precise diaries of the results are kept in order to accumulate the data, which will consequently allow to assess the real potential of the terroir.

The wines age in French barriques (40% new ones) and are regularly filled up. The quality changes occurring due to the interaction of the liquid with the oak wood are strictly monitored. We are experimenting with different types of oak trees from various regions and woods are roasted in different manners.

After bottling, the wines mature in bottles in an underground tunnel with constant temperature of 14 C and 75% humidity.
